Top 10 Protein Supplements for Women

We see a huge number of protein supplements out there and this variety is the reason why it can be difficult to choose the right one. So, here is my list of top 10 supplements I consider to be the best on the market nowadays. All information provided is based on my personal experience.

1. Optimum Nutrition Serious Mass

That’s the most effective supplement to help people increase their muscle mass. It really helps to gain weight fast and transform it into powerful muscles. I used it for about a month to achieve the desired shape for my skinny body. Just imagine 50 grams of protein in a single portion. It was more than enough for me. There were certain drawbacks that I noticed, though. I felt rather sleepy and tired when taking the supplement. I can’t really tell whether this is a general effect of the supplement as others might not feel the same effects that I experienced.

Pros: highly effective, easy to prepare, tastes well (just like Nesquick).
Cons: might make you sleepy, can cause fat gain if you don’t exercise enough.

2. Optimum Nutrition 100% Whey Gold Standard

This product has already become a real legend on the protein market. In addition to pure protein, this supplement contains such useful BCAAs, fast-acting peptides and is free from sugar and fat. Anyone can take this product; just remember to consume the appropriate amount. It’s highly concentrated (you get about 25 grams of protein with a small spoon of this supplement) and, thus, extremely cost-effective. I’ve been taking it for almost 3 years now and I don’t see any reason to stop.

Pros: manufactured by a trustworthy company, Glanbia; has low amount of artificial sweetener, whey proteins, have a huge biological value, nice taste (I like the double chocolate one), cost-effective.
Cons: I haven’t found any yet.

3. Click Espresso Protein Drink

A must-use drink even for people who are not fond of workouts and don’t like the idea of taking any supplements. This espresso protein drink does two wonderful things: boosts energy and helps to burn fat. And that’s the best appetite reducer I’ve tried. Take one cup and your body gets the right amount of vitamins, minerals and proteins to satisfy its need. A cup of this tasty drink will warm you up in winter and help restore your strength. And in summer, you can mix this supplement with icy water to refresh your body and mind.

Pros: weight control, energy booster, pretty tasty.
Cons: might not dissolve fully in your cup, but that’s not a big deal.

4. Optimum Nutrition 100% Casein Protein

It’s a nice supplement for people who suffer from muscle pain (especially after workouts) due to its muscle-protecting and anti-catabolic properties. The price is rather high compared with other supplements; but if you do have muscle pain pretty often, this supplement is for you.

Pros: relieves from muscle pain
Cons: rather pricey

5. Optimum Nutrition Opti-Women

This is not a protein supplement in its main sense, but I can say that it is the most important product for any woman because it combines all the necessary vitamins and minerals including herbs, iron and folic acid. Despite containing the best formula for women, this supplement might cause an upset stomach and nausea and should not be taken together with oral contraceptives.

Pros: ideal mix of elements needed for women.
Cons: you might experience some side effects.

6. Optimum Nutrition 2:1:1 Recovery

When I was just starting my fitness career, my body was not reacting well and it was hard for me to recover after workouts. Thanks to this product, I forgot about any soreness. So, if you need something to speed up the recovery and reduce the muscle ache, this protein supplement is right for you. Its formula (BCAAs, amino acids, etc.) stimulates faster absorption. And the good news is that its price is lower than the prices of similar products.

Pros: efficient, rather cheap, tasty
Cons: hard to mix

7. Garden of Life RAW Protein

I haven’t used this personally, but a friend of mine, who is vegan, uses it and is happy with the results. This supplement also contains vitamins, minerals, live probiotics and enzymes to support your digestive system. So, if you are a vegan or don’t take soy, whey, etc. this supplement is ideal for you. But there is one thing I should warn you about – its awful taste!

Pros: best vegan supplement.
Cons: horrible taste, at least for me.

8. Optimum Nutrition 100% Egg Protein

This is the best egg protein available on the market and it’s a nice alternative for people who don’t take whey protein due to some reasons. In addition to egg protein, this supplement also contains useful amino acids, BCAAs, etc and is free from sugar, lactose and saturated fats. Lots of people say it tastes much better than whey; but personally, I can’t stand its aftertaste.

Pros: nice alternative to whey protein.
Cons: I hate its aftertaste.

9. Ultimate Nutrition Protein Isolate Chocolate Creme (not available any more)

The first thing that comes to my mind when I hear about this product is that it tastes like a piece of paper, no kidding. Still, you take supplements to improve the condition of your body and not to make your stomach happy. And this wheat protein supplement does bring good results. It contains amino acids and other important elements for muscle repair and that’s really great. To be more specific, this product provides 20 g of protein per 100 calories and costs about $20 for 65 servings .

Pros: cost-effective, nice alternative to whey and soy.
Cons: taste is hard to get used to.

10. Pure Protein Chewy Chocolate Chip

Do you like bars? I do, and that’s why this protein bar is a part of my everyday life. A sugar free bar with high quality protein and vitamins, what else might we need throughout the day? As for the taste, I like its chocolate cookie flavor.

Pros: a nice healthy snack to keep your protein balance.
Cons: can’t think of any.

These 10 protein supplements are more than enough to satisfy any needs you might have. Still, if you need something more or you just need more details regarding any of them, please leave your questions/suggestions in the comments and I will get back to you with the information as soon as possible.
